Exploration 6 movie review

I thought the movie "Ain't scared of your jail" was a very powerful and emotional movie. The movie focused mainly on how the people of Nashville used a important tactic, the non violent action remove the problem of segregation in the 1960's. The most memorable non violent direct action in Nashville was when the college student went and sat in lunch counters and never got up or reacted back even when they were getting beaten up by the white people. A good source in the film would probably be Diana Dash because she was present through all the events in the movie even when Ben West became the mayor. The best part was when the cops came to arrest the student more students came and sat in lunch counters. It shows courageous and determined they were. I think the best quote in the movie was at the end when Jim zwerg says " I am not going to stop singing you can try to take my mattress if you want". This scene in the movie was the strongest out of all because when the big muscular guy came to beat up Jim to leave the mattress but instead the big guy started to cry. This movie showed us that you can rid of bad things with non-violence.

  1. I also thought the story at the end of the movie was touching. When he wouldn't give up his mattress and "pee-wee" was supposed to come beat him for it and instead he started crying. Really an emotional story and makes you realize how much blacks had to go through, even sometimes against each other, just to get their freedom.

  4. That part with the cops was one of my favorites too because regardless of what the police did, the people sitting at the counter did not give in. They continued to come in groups and were basically challenging the police.

  5. The part about pee-wee was very emotional and probably one of my favorites. It must have been so hard for him to do that against another black both fighting for freedom. It was a scary time and they all had to put their lives on the line.

  6. I do agree with your assessment of the movie but i disagree with the best quote. I do believe you are entitled to your quote but mine was when Diane Nash asked mayor Ben West if segregation solely based on race is right.

  7. I thought when more and more waves of students kept coming to the lunch counters was one of the best things of the entire film. I also thought it was amazing that over 500 people had been arrested during the freedom rides.

  9. I feel really sad when the students were beaten up. The police tried to stop their protests with extremely violent attacks, which is the saddest thing to see. Freedom and rights should not be stopped by violence.
